In terms of the Rashid / Patel pick, I think they are looking at the future.
He isn't going to get a game over in South Africa, so let him go and play Big Bash Cricket for a couple of months whilst Big Fat Sami brings the drinks out.

I'd love to see Taylor given a go at 3
My only issue with playing Compton is the lack of left handers in the top 5. Steyn doesn't bowl particualrly well to them I recall, which is why I think it may be Ballance back. People seem to forget he was averaging 60 until the summer, and then lost all form and technique.
If he is back to his best he will be useful over there.

Chris Jordan is a Fucking disgraceful pick.
It's one thing if you lose with shit Englishmen, but Jordan & Ballance? Embarrassing. It even takes the shine off winning, for me.
Mind you, it's not only the Aussie in charge that's picked them...

Jonah Aust had a flurry of wickets at the end of their first innings because from about 5 down they were throwing the bat trying to score quickly for a declaration ideally at about 6 down.
Boaty The Perth pitch due to the weather and soil doesn't wear like many pitches. It develops cracks that can become wide. Ideally the pitch is more lively to start and it doesn't get to that stage.

Don't get why rash if is out - why don't we ever properly stick by new blood when they come into the team? Same as dropping carberry after the ashes, when he actually didn't do that badly by comparison to the others.
Also, poor Liam plunkett...

Oi Sven
Any explanation as to how that completely placid wicket for 4 days straight became an absolute minefield on day 5
Plenty of cracks and even holes formed overnight ? pretty sure it was Henry who bowled a delivery that quite literally died on impact and rolled through to the keeper

I could have got a free NZ T20 shirt today, but I turned it down, because I don't want to do anything to support it.

For the record, I don't think Smith's declaration was pathetic. It WAS a pussy declaration though.
Sven - you think that declaring 9 down in the first innings after a flurry of wickets, and then setting 320 in 50 overs with rain on the way is keeping the game moving?
All he did was guarantee you can't lose the series. Very much safety-first.

Watched a bit of the Pietersen doc last night and what struck me was lots of shots of coloured clothed types hitting anonymous bowlers into the dark night ....... pointlessly ..... as he trudges the t20 circuit. And then they showed some bits from Test matches, especially 2005. The contrast between truly important and life changing vs a bit of fun that you wouldn't remember by the time you got home was obvious.
A declaration is a chance to force a result not a way of bringing the other team into the game. I will take advice on attacking play from the Kiwis once THEY start forcing the game. Who knows they may even declare one day.

Agreed Roeder.
Test match cricket is a different level of competition. I was impressed by the honours board at the MCG, five fers and centuries, in tests. Not sure anyone bothers if you knock up a ton in T20 though?
